What's your worst equipment purchase?

Postby Bryan Ultduct on Tue Jul 13, 2010 11:17 pm

Tonight I was moving equipment and misc things from my garage into my new shop, behold I found something in the back corner that hasn't seen daylight for some time which brings up a question, what's the worst purchase (keep it on the subject of duct cleaning) you've made? Anyone need a Rotobrush...?

I bought a cable brush from Nikro 8+ years ago and have used it exactly 3 times and the last time was at least 7+ years ago. Even with the carbide brushes on it they don't clean any better than the different whips we use. Luckly it was only $400+ dollars.

One 18 volt Dewalt drill & 2 Panasonic 18 volt drills over the last 9 years. That's at least $600+ they are failure prone! At least we got some use out of them. Now we use Milwaukee drills 28V baby + ( that's for you DK) 12 volt screwdrivers & flashlights with LED lights. If you are still slumming it with incandescent bulbs...go LED they are brighter and dont burn out if dropped.

Bought a duct cleaning truck, thought would be great idea, but paid way to much for it, my mistake for not looking more into it not knowing, sold it for what I shouldve bought it for, was a costly mistake, couldnt believe was taking that much advatage of, live and learn.

Our worst equipment purchase is one that seems to be ongoing... The ULV Foggers. They are good for about 6 to 9 months. This is with normal flushing of the systems ect. I am not a big fan of spending around $300 everytime one of these things breaks down. But, when they work, they do a great job; so it's almost a double-edged sword!

When I first bought my cleaning equipment there was a power vent cleaner that came with the equipment. It has the most flexible drive shaft I have ever seen but it is junk. Difficult to handle and control and if the drill went the wrong way you would destroy the clutch. $1,500 for it. If I knew then what I know now!

So you're telling me roto brush is not the best system...? lol (not really lol but a strong chuckle.)

My worst equipment purchase so far would definitely be a sub par air compressor. I should have listened to John at the get-go.
